A felt ring surrounds the tweeter on the Ryan R610 monitor. It improves imaging and soundstage by controlling early reflections from the textile tweeter. The woofer is 6.5 inches of kevlar (used to make bulletproof vests) and nomex (used to make firefighter suits). Sounds plenty tough to us. Ryan designs its own drivers and handles cabinetmaking and final assembly in its native California. Sound was warm, sweet, and well focused. Price is $1000 per speaker, so in theory you can buy a five- or seven-channel configuration, though positioning the center would require extra care.
