Runco Does Three-Chip 1080p DLP With A Side of THX

Runco’s Video Xtreme line of DLP front projectors has been knocked up two big notches- while other manufacturers are aggressively marketing single-chip 1080p DLP, Runco is offering a series of three-chip 1080p models.

The line is not for the feint of heart or wallet, as it starts with VX-22d at $44,995, and moves up dramatically in price from there. The VX-44d hits $79,995 and the VX-55d is available at $99,995 or (gasp!) $114,995 with the CineWide and Autoscope features. These latter features eliminate those unsightly black bars on 2.35:1 aspect ratio movies.

In addition to all that these Runco three-chippers are being tested for THX certification, which will involve the projectors meeting THX’s standards for accurate color, luminance levels and video processing capabilities. As usual, Runco is out front.
