Pro-Ject Reimagines Classic Stereo Gear

Pro-Ject USA has reimagined the classic integrated amplifier, choosing a refreshingly compact form factor over the traditional bulky box for two of its latest products.

The MaiA DS3 integrated amplifier ($1,599) combines a power amp rated to deliver 2 x 80 watts into 8 ohms (140 watts into 4 ohms) with a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), selectable moving-coil/moving-magnet phono preamp, headphone amp, and aptX HD-enabled Bluetooth receiver in an aluminum chassis only 8 inches wide, 3 inches tall, and 9.5 inches deep.

The amp boasts a dual-mono architecture and supports DSD64/128/256 and PCM sample rates up to 24 bits/192kHz in addition to accommodating up to five analog sources and four digital sources (one coaxial, two optical, one USB). One set of analog RCA jacks are variable and the unit also includes a headphone jack on the front panel and a subwoofer output. A remote control is also included.

Designed for listeners with limited space who are looking for a simple setup, the super-compact Stereo Box S3 BT integrated amp ($499) mates a power amp rated to deliver 2 x 20 watts into 8 ohms (40 watts into 4 ohms) with a preamp featuring aptX HD-enabled Bluetooth, two stereo sets of analog inputs, and a variable line output in an aluminum chassis measuring only 4 x 1.5 x 4.5 inches.

Expected to be available in limited quantities this month, both components are designed and built in Europe and offered in black or silver with optional wood side panels in walnut, rosenut, or eucalyptus.
