Polk Announces $299 Entry-Level Subwoofer

Polk is hoping system builders will find the price of its new entry-level subwoofer so enticing that they’ll buy two. The company today announced plans to expand its popular Monitor XT Series of speakers with a $299 subwoofer rated to play down to 24Hz.

Slated to ship in December, the new XT10 is a step down from the existing XT12 ($399), which features a 12-inch woofer and a class-AB amplifier rated to deliver 50 watts RMS, 100 watts peak. The XT10 mates a 10-inch long-throw driver with a class-D amplifier — also rated to deliver 50 watts of continuous power — in a bass-reflex cabinet measuring 12 x 15.7 x 16.6 inches (W x H x D). The woofer and port fire down from the bottom of the enclosure, which is elevated by integral feet.

The subwoofer is about as basic as it gets, providing a set of stereo RCA inputs — the left of which doubles as a low-frequency effects (LFE) input — a 0/180° phase switch, and a low-pass crossover continuously adjustable between 40Hz and 160Hz. The cabinet is critically braced to minimize resonances.

The XT10’s amplifier is backed by a three-year limited warranty and the woofer by a five-year warranty. Finish is black vinyl. For more information, visit polkaudio.com.
