PlayStation3 Hitting Shipping Targets

Some interesting info at Sony's press event included an update on PS3's shipping and availability. They're still selling fast, but the good news is enough quantity is getting out that you might be able to get one without being injured or paying thousands on Ebay.

Sony claims it hit its target and shipped one million units to North America by the end of 2006. Sony anticipates six million units will have shipped worldwide by March, 2007. This led Sony to claim a Blu-ray Disc install base of over one million units in North America.

PS3 appears to be offering Sony the beachead it promised in the format war. It will be interesting to watch BD software sales this year, which last time I checked at Amazon (via www.thedvdwars.com) showed HD DVD leading a number of categories.
