The first time I tried to measure black level, DRE was off, and the light meter fluctuated between 0.001fL and 0.000fL. Also, the black level dropped to true 0 (the screen looked as if the set was turned off) after about a minute or so. The black level came back up when displaying a menu, then dropped a minute after the menu was gone. Setting DRE to Low, the light meter measured a steady 0.001fL.

When I first displayed the overscan pattern at 720p and 480p, the pattern was not symmetrical—there was a different amount of overscan on each side of the screen. When I called up the Screen menu, the image shifted so that all sides were about equal in this regard, which is reflected in the measurements above. But then, the image shifted back to its asymmetrical overscan, which was very strange.

Via component, the high-frequency horizontal burst was very rolled off—in fact, I almost rated the bandwidth at 18.75MHz—and there was a lot of noise in that burst. As a result, I do not recommend watching high-def via component.

Grayscale & Color Temperature

In the Low color-temp preset, the grayscale was very close to correct, skewing slightly toward red.

Calibration got the grayscale even closer to correct.

Pre-cal, red was a bit high and green was a bit low throughout the brightness range.

Post-cal, the primaries tracked very close together.

Color temperature was slightly low before calibration, but quite flat.

You can't get much closer to correct than this!

Color Accuracy

Setting Color Space to 2 brought all six colors quite close to their targets.

The color-management system allowed me to get the colors even closer to correct.

X
