Optoma Adds 4K Laser Projector to Home Theater Line

Optoma has added a DLP laser projector to its 4K home theater lineup, bringing the number of laser-lit models in the line to four.

With an estimated street price of $2,799, the new UHZ50 has a rated brightness of 3,000 lumens, features Optoma’s DuraCore laser, which is rated for up to 30,000 hours of maintenance-free operation, and is able to project images up to 302 inches (diagonal).

The UHZ50 supports HDR10 and HLG high dynamic range (HDR) with a brightness adjustment and is said to cover 100% of the Rec.709 and DCI-P3 color spaces. Topping its list of features is an Enhanced Gaming mode with rated response times of 16.7ms in 4K at 60Hz and 4ms in 1080p at 240Hz to ensure smooth motion during fast-action gameplay.

The projector also has a built-in media player and app store for accessing YouTube, Spotify, and other streaming services and works with Optoma’s Creative Cast app, which makes it easy to wirelessly project and share images from up to four mobile devices.

Controls include 1.3X manual zoom, four-corner and multipoint geometric correction, vertical and horizontal keystone correction, and an adjustable wall-color setting for projecting images directly onto a wall that is not white.

The projector supports HDCP 2.2 and provides three HDMI 2.0 ports — one of which supports eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) — two USB ports and an analog and digital audio output for viewers who want to bypass its internal speakers and 2 x 10-watt amplifier.

An infrared (IR) remote control is included. Noise level when the projector is operating is 26 dB, according to Optoma. For more information, visit: optomausa.com.
