La Liga, officially known as the first division, is the top professional football league in Spain. It is organized by the National Professional Football League. Since its inception, La Liga has grown into one of the most prestigious football leagues in the world, renowned for its competitive spirit, world-class players and famous clubs.

The Spanish League was founded in 1929 at the suggestion of José Maria Acha, director of the Arenas de Getxo club. The league started with the participation of ten teams: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Arenas Club de Getxo, Atlético Madrid, Espanyol, Europa, Racing Santander and Real Union. Barcelona won the first season, paving the way for a competitive and exciting football journey.

The early years of the Spanish league were interrupted by the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), which brought the league to a halt. When the league resumed, there was a shift in dominance. Atlético Aviación (now Atlético Madrid) and Valencia became strong rivals, each winning numerous titles in the forties and fifties.
