JVC intros new LED/LCD TVs

AmTRAN Video Corp., the company now producing TVs under the JVC brand, has announced four new JVC flat-panel TVs in sizes ranging from 42 to 55 inches, at prices ranging from $799 to $999. All feature a slim bezel design and edge-lit LED backlighting with local dimming. The larger models, the $899 SP50M-C 50-inch and $999 SP55M-C 55-inch, are 2D TVs with a 120 Hz frame rate. Both include SmartTV-features, built-in WiFi, and preloaded apps for Netflix, Vudu, and Pandora. A two-sided remote with a QWERTY keyboard on the back speeds up entry of search terms. The smaller models, the $799 SL42B-C 42-inch and $899 SL47B-C 47-inch, are 120 Hz, passive 3D models that come with four sets of 3D glasses. They include the same SmartTV functions and QWERTY-capable remote as the larger sets. All models incorporate XinemaSound 3D, a suite of audio processing technologies including crosstalk cancellation (for a simulated surround effect), equal loudness contour processing (to boost the bass and highs at low volumes), and dialog enhancement. AmTRAN's release says XinemaSound 3D delivers "exceptional sound, without the need for a separate soundbar."
