When dnp started the development of the Supernova™ Screen was our goals to develop a screen which should provide improved image quality in a broad range of environments and let more people enjoy the large screen experience without sacrificing real estate.

In real life only very few people can afford a dedicated theater room with well-controlled lighting. Most people watch TV in their family rooms in less than perfect conditions for watching video, dealing with this fact the Supernova™ Screen enables the use of a front projected solution for the multi purpose rooms. Due to the fact that the Supernova™ Screen maintains contrast better than any other front screen on the market in a room with just the slightest amount of ambient light present is it now possible to watch the big screen without changing the family room to a "Bat Cave." After all, the majority of TV watching for most families is done in the family room, whether it is gaming, sports, movies or just casual watching of the local news. But we still want the ability to maneuver around and do other activities.

In the review Mr. Norton correctly measures the black level of the Supernova™ Screen vs. Studiotek to have a luminance of 0.009/0.004 foot-Lamberts respectively. The higher number measured on the Supernova™ Screen is related to the higher gain of the Supernova™ Screen. No projectors can produce 100% black, thus the light leakage from the projector will be reflected back to the audience with a factor of two due to the gain of the screen. However the contrast will become higher on the Supernova™ Screen when the ability of projectors to produce "blacker blacks" are developed further.
