Denon’s Home Sound Bar 550 Delivers Atmos, DTS:X

Denon today introduced the Sound Bar 550, a compact soundbar that uses a six-driver array to deliver Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks. It further supports the company’s HEOS Built-in platform for multiroom audio streaming.

While designed to function as a standalone soundbar, the Sound Bar 550 can be paired with other Denon HEOS Built-in speakers used as surrounds as well as with the company’s DSW-1H subwoofer for a full wireless surround sound experience.

Measuring just over two feet wide and 3 inches high, the Sound Bar 550’s driver array consists of a pair of 0.75-inch tweeters and four 2-inch full-range drivers mated with three passive radiators. Digital signal processing is used to create an immersive effect with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks. Denon’s soundbar can be controlled using an included hardware remote or with the HEOS app, while a built-in microphone will allow for optional Alexa voice control following a firmware update planned for spring 2021.

Connections on the Sound Bar 550 include two 4K-capable HDMI ports, including one with eARC, plus optical digital audio and 3.5mm analog stereo inputs. A USB type-A input allows for playback of high-res audio files from a USB storage device, and there’s an Ethernet port for a hardwired network connection.

Music streaming services supported by HEOS Built-in include Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music HD, TIDAL, and others. Users can also stream audio directly to the Sound Bar 550 via AirPlay 2 or Bluetooth.

The Denon Home Sound Bar 550 is priced at $599 and will be available in February 2021.
