Coastal Source’s Stylish Outdoor Sub Built to “Defy the Elements”

Coastal Source, the NJ-based company specializing in outdoor speakers and lighting, is offering a sneak peek at the outdoor subwoofer it will unveil at the Audio Advice Live home entertainment show that kicks off tomorrow in Raleigh, NC.

One of the best looking outdoor subs we’ve seen, the Cube mates a 10-inch fiberglass woofer with weatherproof Santoprene surrounds and a 350-watt amplifier in a 16-inch-square enclosure built to withstand the elements. Unlike other weatherproof subwoofers, this one is designed for use above ground (no digging required) and features an elegant stone top (granite or travertine), making it a candidate for placement out in the open on a patio/deck or in a landscaped area. Pricing was not announced.

The Cube is compatible with Coastal’s patented twist-and-lock UniConnect 8C cabling system so it can be easily integrated into any of the brand’s Plug+Play outdoor speaker systems. No tools required. Coastal’s “cap switch” can be used to quickly invert phase when bass needs to be optimized.

The down-firing subwoofer is fitted with vibration-reducing rubber feet to minimize vibrations when it’s placed on a hard surface and the walls of the enclosure are made of weatherproof a “color-through roto mold composite material.” Coastal Source offers a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty.

“Cube is designed and engineered from the bottom up to deliver audiophile quality bass from a classic, compact shape that blends into a landscape and provides years of outstanding performance in even the most challenging environments,” said Coastal CEO Franco D’Ascanio. “Cube’s flexible design allows it to be mounted on any hard surface or in the landscape environment.”
