Cambridge Audio Launches Evo One All-in-One Wireless Speaker System

Cambridge Audio today introduced the Evo One, a versatile tabletop speaker system featuring wireless connectivity and onboard streaming from key music services.

Available starting today, the Evo One is priced at $1,499 and is designed to deliver omnidirectional sound through 14 strategically placed drivers, comprising four 1-inch silk dome tweeters, four 2.25-inch aluminium cone midrange drivers, and six 2.75-inch woofers, each of which has a dedicated 50-watt Class D amp channel for a total of 700 watts (at 4 ohms). The amp includes an integrated 32-bit/96-kHz digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and everything is housed in a stylish soundbar-like cabinet about 27 inches wide.

To achieve a surround effect, the tweeters and midrange drivers are grouped into four discrete two-way speaker complements: two fire forward from the far left and right and two fire from either side and just around the corner from the front mid/tweeter pairs. The remaining six woofers are spread around the enclosure — two in front, two in back, and one on each side.

The fourth generation of Cambridge’s app-based StreamMagic platform is at the heart of the Evo One as well as the Evo 75 and Evo 150 streaming amplifiers the company introduced in 2021. The system is Roon Ready and supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) connectivity, high-resolution multiroom streaming over Wi-Fi via AirPlay 2 and Google Cast with direct connection to Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Deezer, and internet radio. The convenience of standard resolution streaming via Bluetooth is also supported

But streaming isn’t the only game in this town. A variety of physical connections are present, including an eARC-enabled HDMI for use with a TV, an optical digital input, Ethernet and USB-A ports, an analog RCA input, and a moving-magnet (MM) phono input for turntable hookups.

Other highlights include a handheld remote control, a seven-band equalizer, bass and treble controls, a spacious 6.8-inch color screen that displays album artwork with the option of cycling through a clock display and, for a touch of nostalgia, a set of virtual VU meters plus a removable wrap-around speaker grille.
