One of the best demos I heard at CES 2023 was Dirac Live demonstrating its Active Room Treatment (ART) technology. Now, StormAudio has flipped the switch and activated the feature in its ISP platform, meaning it works with all StormAudio processors and AVRs with firmware 4.5 on up and is included at no additional fee on any products purchased January 1 2023 onward.

A promising new encoding method from Meridian, maker of world-beating active loudspeakers and other digital audio hardware, has been adopted by Tidal and 7digital, two major forces in music streaming. Tidal is the Norwegian company whose lossless 16-bit streaming has gotten audiophiles interested in streaming. 7digital operates music download and streaming services for itself and other parties and was the first company to offer DRM-free MP3 downloads in 2008.

This week, <A HREF="http://www.2netFX.com">2netFX</A>, which specializes in providing streaming technology for intranet and broadband Internet media delivery, has announced that its new HDTV-over-IP streaming technology will be featured in a live demonstration of Gigabit Ethernet over fiber in conjunction with <A HREF="http://www.worldwidepackets.com">World Wide Packets</A> at Comdex in Las Vegas. The new approach is intended to enable Internet Service Providers, cable television companies, and telecommunication carriers to base new services on HDTV technology.

New research from financial services company Raymond James shows that almost a third (31 percent) of Internet users polled in November cited streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu as their primary source of video content, up from 24 percent a year ago and just four percent behind the 35 percent of survey respondents who named cable as their primary source of video entertainment.

It’s no surprise that Parks Associates finds 59 percent of U.S. broadband households subscribe to a streaming service like Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu—or that the trend is upward. But those streaming subscribers are also in an exploratory mood, with “an increase in households subscribing to two, three, or even four or more services,” reports Brett Sappington, Parks’s senior research director.
