The direct broadcast satellite industry is making great progress over cable providers in the digital TV arena, according to a recently published study by research firm <A HREF="http://www.strategyanalytics.com"> Strategy Analytics</A>. Worldwide, more than twice as many new subscribers to digital television signed up with DBS services than with cable last year, the study finds.

A government survey of 1000 people indicates that most Americans know little or nothing about digital television. Fewer than half of those surveyed claimed to know the difference between analog and digital: 40% said they had never heard of digital television, while 43% claimed to be "somewhat aware" that a change is taking place in TV and broadcasting technology.

In the past two years, more than 8 million households returned recently acquired electronic products. Most of the returned goods were thought to be defective, but a new study released September 11 indicates that three out of every four "defects" are actually "operator error"&mdash;the owners didn't understand how the products were supposed to work.
