While it’s easy to put such impressive technology into high-end, expensive products, JAM Audio is recognizing the need to put voice-activation into more affordable products. They are releasing a range of products with Alexa including one that starts at an economical $60.

Low, flat rectangular black boxes with a few buttons and displays. Boring. You need to add a little buzz to your stereo shelf. For example, how about a Beehive? If you’re looking for a tube-driven headphone amplifier and DAC, this might be the hive for you.

Lockitron’s latest smart door lock iteration, the Lockitron Bolt, is unlocking a new level of affordability in DIY smart locks. Unlike the original crowdfunded Lockitron, the fit over existing deadbolts, the Lockitron Bolt is a full replacement deadbolt device that includes a Key Match feature allowing for the Bolt cylinder to be used with the homeowner’s or apartment renter’s original key. Since the Bolt is designed to replace an existing deadbolt—rather than fit over an existing mechanism—the new smart lock is smaller (1.1-inches deep, 7-inches tall, and 2.75-inches wide) with a knob that is only 0.7-inches deep. The center point of the knob is 1.2 inches from the bottom of the unit, so there is plenty of room for use with separate doorknobs and doorhandles.

In a spare few minutes while waiting for yet another video demo I wandered into the surprisingly extensive space at the Convention Center reserved for drones of all sizes and shapes, each of them demonstrated inside barred cages that were actually, thin, heavy strings that looked like they could be easily breached by a rabid, runaway drone...
