Zvox Demos Ultra-Wide Platinum SoundBase Soundbars

Soundbar pioneer Zvox demonstrated its new Platinum Series SoundBase systems designed to support TVs as large as 80 inches. The line includes three low-profile models: the 30-inch-wide model 570 ($400), 36-inch model 670 ($500), and 42-inch model 770 ($700).

The simple yet elegant all-in-one pedestal sound systems are only 3.5 inches high yet house a row of five drivers plus up to three 5.25-inch woofers (the model 570 has only one) and 65, 105, or 125 watts of power. All models support CD-quality Bluetooth/aptX streaming and include proprietary PhaseCue virtual surround processing and AccuVoice dialogue enhancement, automatic output leveling to tame obnoxiously loud commercials, and three analog and three digital inputs.

Zvox staged an impressive demo of the SoundBase 670 playing music in a hotel suite during CEDIA Expo. Jennifer Warnes’ rendition of “Famous Blue Raincoat” sounded lush and full with palpable bass.

“Our new Platinum line of SoundBase systems combines the style of the most beautiful systems on the market with better sound quality than any system on the market we believe,” said Tom Hannaher, CEO. “It’s a complete line so it will deal with the larger size TVs people are buying these days and it delivers sound quality that is comparable to a very good 5.1 system, including bass down to 34 Hz. Three subwoofers are built into the system so there’s no need for an external subwoofer on the floor. Plus our AccuVoice technology delivers extremely clear vocals for the huge group of over 55 citizens in the United States who are starting to experience hearing difficulties.”

Models 570 and 670 are available now at Best Buy’s Magnolia Home Theater showrooms; the model 770 will be available in October.
