On the heels of the HD DVD announcements I Blogged on last night, Warner and Paramount announced many of the same titles on Blu-ray as well, many of which will be new releases day and date with DVD..

Warner’s announced day and date titles will include Martin Scorsese’s The Departed (in time for the Oscars), Blood Diamond, We Are Marshall and the recent hit Happy Feet. Also slated for ’07 Blu-ray release are Warner franchises like the Matrix trilogy and all of the Harry Potter films.

Paramount’s upcoming day and date new release BDs will include Babel in February, and Clint Eastwood’s acclaimed Flags of Our Fathers. BD announcements from the Warner catalog include special edition re-releases of Payback with Mel Gibson and Face/Off with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.

As far as we know now, day and date BD releases of these Paramount titles mean triple releases with the Blu-ray, DVD and HD DVD versions of these films arriving at stores simultaneously. On the Warner side however, this may not be the case depending how quickly Warner can ramp up capacity for its TotalHD Blu-ray/HD DVD combo discs. Warner is holding a press conference for TotalHD tomorrow night, so looks for more info then. With TotalHD it could mean that Warner would release on all three formats with only two discs.
