M&K Shows Off Powered Monitors, New Sub

M&K Sound, known for its studio-quality speakers and subwoofers, was at CEDIA this week talking up some new powered studio monitors, a new slimline on-wall speaker, and a new powered subwoofer.

The MPS1620P studio monitor (left in the photo) features a 1-inch cloth dome tweeter with a 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer, each powered by individual amplifiers rated at 50 watts RMS and 100 watts RMS respectively. The MPS2520P (right), is essentially a powered version of M&K's classic S-150 passive box speaker. It has three of the same tweeters and a pair of 5.25-inch glass-fiber woofers. Bi-amplified power is rated at 200 watts RMS to the woofers and 180 watts RMS to the tweeters.

The MP950 is a new slim on-wall version of the LCR 950 box speaker, voice-matched with similar drivers: a pair of 5.25-inch polypropylene woofers and a 1-inch cloth dome tweeter. It's meant to function either across the front or as wall-mounted surrounds in a theater system as an alternative to the SUR95T Tripole.

Meanwhile, the MX300 subwoofer is a single driver model designed with M&K's classic push-pull geometry. The 12-inch THX-approved driver is powered by an amp rated at 300 watts RMS and 500 watts peak power. Left and right RCA stereo inputs and pass-through outputs are supplied, along with the usual controls for crossover, phase, and output level. Its suggested retail price is $1,999.
