KEF LS50: Wireless Swiss Army Knife of Speakers

For the company’s 55th anniversary, KEF created the LS50 Wireless, a complete active music system sharing the acoustic features of the company’s vaunted LS50. The LS50 Wireless features so many inputs and options for enjoying your music, it is a veritable Swiss Army Knife of versatility, but with audiophile, 192kHz/24-bit performance.

The first thing you notice about the LS50 Wireless is the striking design with three different cabinet and woofer finishes. Available in Titanium Grey/Red, Gloss Black/Blue, or Gloss White/Copper combinations, each speaker comes with a matching colored remote as an added bit of flair. An optional, color-matching speaker stand will be available in February for $400/pair.

The speakers feature KEF’s Uni-Q driver array with 5.25-inch magnesium/aluminum alloy low frequency driver and 1-inch vented aluminum dome tweeter, with frequency response rated from 45Hz-28kHz (+/1 3dB) and a shockingly loud maximum output of 106 dB. The speaker utilizes two separate DACs for each channel, for a total of four, and is powered by an incredibly fast and clean 230 Watts per channel in a bi-amp dual mono configuration, with 200-watts feeding the low frequency driver and 30 to the tweeter.

To ensure you can enjoy your music wherever it lives. The LS50 includes 2.4GHz/5GHz Dual-band WiFi, RJ45 Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0 aptX, Asynchronous USB Type B, TOSLINK Optical, and RCA line-level analog inputs. A dedicated LS50 Wireless app (iOS and Android) facilitates network setup, music streaming, and playback. The app also gives users access to the speaker’s DSP, allowing three different preset performance EQs along with a variety of user-configured tweaks to achieve bespoke performance in any room. The powerful DSP makes adjustments on the fly, letting you immediately hear the impact of the adjustment.

The KEF LS50 Wireless are available now at a cost of $2200/pair.
