Denon and Marantz Show AVR and Pre-Pro

A new top-of-the-line Denon receiver sat almost unnoticed at Sound United's convention center booth.

The Denon AVR-X8500H is the brand's first 13.2-channel model, which should take care of any of the new height-enhanced surround standards—not only Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but also Auro-3D, with its dual height layers. Dolby Vision and HDR10 are both supported for the best possible Ultra HD picture. So is Denon's HEOS wireless standard. Shipping in February at a price to be determined.

Not shown, but present in spirit, was the Marantz AV8805 pre-pro, another 13.2-channel model with integral HEOS. A new feature is Audyssey Editor, which performs room correction via $25 app. Price $4499.
