Blue Outlook On LG Multi Blue
It's been confirmed that LG's Multi Blue player won't include a full implementation of HD DVD's HDi interactivity layer. More than one source stated that because of this the player won't receive full endorsement from the HD DVD Group and won't bear an HD DVD logo. It was also related to me that this is not an issue with the Broadcom integrated circuit solution, but rather a conscious choice by LG that HDi is not a critical feature.
While we knew this would negate compatibility with HD DVD's advanced interactivity features it was revealed today that any title authored with a menu that pops up on-screen with the movie running full motion is an HDi authored title. And we've not seen a single HD DVD that doesn't have this feature.
This raises the risk that some HD DVD titles may simply not play on the LG since they're authored as HDi titles. Why LG chose to forego this feature is a mystery, and one the company may regret.
