Hot off the rumor mill: the firmware update for Sony's PS3 is going to have an exciting new feature. Screen grabs. Why, you ask? Simple. To prove that high score. Or, to save (and maybe zoom?) into your favorite movie scene. You know, movies like...

Starting in October, you'll finally be able to watch Blu-ray 3D discs on your PS3, thanks to an upcoming firmware update announced by Sony. Titles on Blu-ray 3D have been few and far between, but considering the increasing popularity of 3D...

Can you sell a million game consoles in three months and still be behind? Apparently so. Game console sales numbers through January have been distributed, and while Sony's overall numbers for the PS3 are impressive, Nintendo's Wii has outsold the PS3 in total units by aroung 50% in North America- 1.5 million units compared to around 1 million for the PS3. Microsoft's Xbox 360, which launched well over a year ago is in the overall lead with around five million units.

Last night I went to a rock concert and a product launch broke out. But seriously folks, as you're all probably aware Sony's long awaited PlayStation3 game console officially went on sale at midnight last night around the country. I attended the San Francisco launch at the Sony Metreon, where fans, er consumers, were camped out and lined up around the building and down the street for the privilege of buying the consoles as they went on sale at the stroke of midnight.

We're not entirely sure why Sony didn't make this info official back when they released the 120 GB version, but it hardly matters now. From the release, it looks like more storage space will be the only thing that extra $50 gets you....

The Playstation 3 is one of the most popular Blu-ray Disc players on the market, mostly because it pulls double-duty as a game console. However, it still lacks a few key aspects that make it a really good home theater device. Mainly, it doesn't...

The Associated Press has reported that Sony is sticking with its target of having six million PlayStation3 game consoles shipped to retailers by March, the end of the fiscal year. Further, Sony claims it will also meet its goal of having two million PS3s shipped by the end of this calendar year.

Nearly twenty million consumers are so eager to jump on the high-definition disc bandwagon this year that they can't be bothered to wait for a bargain. Even though a Sony executive all but promised that the price of Blu-ray players won't drop to...

PlayStation 3 owners rejoice! Today, Sony announced that the next system-software update for the PS3 (version 2.30), scheduled for release next week, will add the ability to decode DTS-HD Master Audio and High Resolution in their entirety. Up to now, the PS3 has only been able to extract the "core" DTS data from these formats, eliminating the benefit offered by their higher resolution.

Sony announced on Thursday that the next firmware update for the PlayStation 3 (v. 2.20) will add BD-Live capabilities, sometimes called Profile 2.0, to the game console that also happens to be a Blu-ray player. Scheduled for release in late March, this update will make the PS3 the first BD-Live device to become available since the format launched over a year ago.

By chance last night I downloaded firmware version 1.8 for the Sony PlayStation3 and took some time to see if any new significant video features were added (a gamer I'm not). Lo and behold, two very significant updates were indeed found in the menus: the PS3 can now upconvert DVDs, and it offers 24p output.
