There are so many ways to track the resurgence of vinyl. You might read Michael Fremer's "Analog Corner" column in the print version of Stereophile, our sister publication, or his own site The Music Angle. Or you could read the recent series of blogs by Stephen Mejias about his sudden and intense immersion in record cleaning machines and all things analog. You might peruse this masters thesis by a student at the University of Amsterdam. And what's this? A turntable review in Home Theater Magazine! But my favorite recent clip is this Associated Press story about a retail chain that accidentally ordered a large shipment of vinyl and ended up selling it.

All is not well in entertainment land. Of the music industry's Big Five, only Universal Music managed to report a profit last year. That was a curious development in view of parent company <A HREF="http://www.vivendi.fr">Vivendi Universal SA</A>'s recent report of a net loss for 2001 in the amount of 13.6 billion euros, or $15.63 billion. Vivendi is also the parent company of Universal Pictures, its film unit.

After what has seemed like an interminable wait, Vizio's 21:9 CinemaWide LED-LCD flat-panel TV is finally available to consumers at Vizio's website. With a native pixel resolution of 2560x1080, this XVT-series set is the first ultra-widescreen flat panel available in the US that displays 2.35:1 movies without black bars above and below the image.
