"TiVo" has become a generic term for both digital video recorders (DVRs) and the process of using them. The devices are surging in popularity, with factory unit sales up 304% during the first 9 months of 2004, compared to the same period last year. Total unit sales of DVRs exceeded one million units for the first time, with dollar volume up 233% to $345 million, according to figures released in late November by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

Ace Bayou Corp. is adding two new chairs to the company's X sound furniture line. The new RelaX-I and Xsoothe are brown and leather, full recliners with built-in sound systems that connect to just about anything with an audio output (MP3 players, portable DVD players, handheld and console game machines, and home theater systems). The two new recliners will also include the option of built-in massage.

Back in NYC - after 9 days and nights of SXSW Music, Film, and Interactive in Austin, Texas - I finally have time to mull over the 21 acts I managed to see during the music portion of the festival.

That perfect 21 might suggest that I had a lucky hand at SXSW this year. But as is the case every year, I heard much that was good and some that was . . . not.
