NHT, a well-regarded speaker manufacturer, is taking a break for awhile. Though the company has had many owners, it is not bankrupt--just "going quiet" while it mulls over "a change in strategy," no doubt prompted by the rocky economy. We received the following email from co-founder and co-owner Chris Byrne, reproduced below in its entirety:

Arizona-based <A HREF="http://www.rockfordcorp.com">Rockford Corporation</A> announced last week that it has acquired loudspeaker designer <A HREF="http://www.nhthifi.com">Now Hear This</A> (NHT) from Recoton Corporation. Previous Rockford acquisitions include Fosgate, Hafler, Acoustat, and MB Quart, and the company says that specific terms of the new agreement are confidential.

Loudspeaker manufacturer NHT is slimming down its offerings in more ways than one. The Benicia, CA-based company has announced that its new lineup will be reduced from the current 30 models to only 18. The new speakers themselves will be smaller than their predecessors, according to vice president and general manager Chris Byrne, thanks to advances in woofer technology that allow deeper bass to be generated from smaller cabinets with narrower front baffles.

Nearly 10 million American homes are "completely unready" for the DTV transition, according to a Nielsen Media Research survey quoted by The New York Times. They are part of a larger group of 25 million with at least one TV that will stop functioning when analog broadcasting ceases in February 2008.

Nielsen is reporting that the number of U.S. households subscribing to streaming TV services was up 18 percent during the second quarter of 2015 compared with the same period in 2014, while the number of traditional pay-TV homes decreased by 100 million, a drop of 1.2 percent, according to Broadcasting & Cable.
