IC manufacturer Broadcom made waves this week by introducing the industry's first integrated chip solution that will allow manufacturers to support Blu-ray and HD DVD in a single player. No OEM deals were announced, but this development offers a glimmer of hope to manufacturers and consumers alike, many of whom have been waiting to discern a "winner" in the next-gen HD disc format war before either building or purchasing a player that supports only one format.

"Digital copy" is the name of a feature about to make its debut on Fox's DVD release of Live Free or Die Hard. The disc will include a version that can be bumped to a computer or Windows PlaysForSure compatible portables.

Fox has announced its first wave of titles on the burgeoning Blu-ray Disc format, with an initial slate of catalog titles that "targets the early adopter" and a significant day-and-date release. November 14th will see the release of <I>Behind Enemy Lines</I>, <I>Fantastic Four</I>, <I>Kingdom of Heaven</I> (Director's Cut), <I>The Omen (666)</I>, <I>The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen</I>, <I>Speed</I>, and <I>The Transporter</I>. This wave will be followed on November 21st by the day-and-date Blu-ray and DVD release of <I>Ice Age: The Meltdown</I>.
