Anyone with a home theater knows how difficult it is to integrate a subwoofer with the rest of the audio system. And if there's more than one sub, the problems are multiplied. Fortunately, these problems could be a thing of the past thanks to the latest product from Audyssey called the Sub Equalizer, which is scheduled to become available on July 1.

Proving to be one of the brightest spots in HDTV broadcasting, <A HREF="http://www.hd.net">HDNet</A> is adding another sport to its lineup of regular high definition television broadcasts. The company says that it has finalized plans to broadcast 80 Major League Baseball games in HDTV during the 2002 regular season. HDNet says the broadcast schedule begins with the Detroit Tigers&ndash;Minnesota Twins game on April 13.

In what they've billed as their continuing commitment to the growth and development of the DVD marketplace, <A HREF="http://www.universalstudios.com">Universal Studios</A> announced 20 DVD titles with DTS audio tracks to be released in the first half of 1999. The opening volley, which includes <I>Dante's Peak</I>, <I>Waterworld</I>, <I>Liar Liar</I>, and <I>Daylight</I>, is expected in January. Other titles to follow are <I>The Shadow</I>, <I>Babe</I>, <I>The River Wild</I>, <I>The Getaway</I>, <I>The Nutty Professor</I>, <I>Apollo 13</I>, <I>Happy Gilmore</I>, <I>12 Monkeys</I>, <I>Dragonheart</I>, <I>The Jackal</I>, <I>The Frighteners</I>, <I>Born on the Fourth of July</I>, <I>The Boxer</I>, <I>For Richer or Poorer</I>, <I>Blues Brothers 2000</I>, and <I>Primary Colors</I>.

The Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC), part of the University of Southern California's School of Engineering and a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center announced last week that it has developed Remote Media Immersion (RMI), which the center described as a "breakthrough Internet technology that generates an immersive three-dimensional experience on home theater-sized screens."

Today at InfoComm, an annual trade show dedicated primarily to commercial and industrial video displays held this year in Las Vegas, Texas Instruments made three major announcements, all related to DLP front projectors. The biggest news was the unveiling of a light engine that uses three PhlatLight LEDs&mdash;red, green, and blue&mdash;rather than a conventional white lamp and color wheel.

Although front projectors usually get the nod from home theater elitists, rear projection sets are one of the most popular display solutions. Integrating the light source and the screen in a single unit seems to make the most sense for most home theater fans.
