A Samsung Blu-ray player has become the first to receive plug-and-play certification under the Simplay HD Testing Program.

We’ve lived with wall-mounted TVs long enough that they’ve become a cliché—or worse, a visual intrusion. Samsung addresses that problem with a TV called The Frame. This wooden-framed TV imitates a framed picture with an “art mode” that lets you select from 100 different still images in 10 categories, including landscape, architecture, wildlife, action, and drawing.

Samsung and Korean satellite broadcaster KT SkyLife teamed up last week to demonstrate the commercial viability of broadcasting 8K video via satellite and over the air at 100 megabits per second (Mbps), according to news reports out of Korea.

Samsung officially unveiled its new 2016 SUHD televisions yesterday at its annual spring launch event in New York, offering up claimed advances in both picture quality and their smart TV interface.

Notably, all the new SUHD sets offer 1,000 nit peak brightness for high dynamic range content mastered to the HDR10 open standard, and wide color gamut. (They are not compatible with Dobly Vision HDR programs.) All meet the Ultra HD Alliance's Premium UHD certification standards.
