Sony's BDP-S300 second-gen Blu-ray Disc player started shipping to retailers this week at a list price of $499, a full $100 cheaper than its previously announced price. With the $499 20GB PlayStation3 no longer in production, the BDP-S300 is now the cheapest Blu-ray Disc player available.

Four major labels dominate the recording industry and Sony BMG has been one of them. But until now, Sony has controlled only half of the company. The other half was owned by Germany's Bertelsmann, which brought the historic RCA Records catalogue to the party, among other things. Well, Sony is buying Bertelsmann's 50 percent stake in the company, giving it total control of what will now become known as Sony Music Entertainment.

Sony has introduced three Bravia TVs equipped with 500 gigabyte hard drives. The catch is that, at least for now, these models are for the Japanese market.

With that kind of storage on board, you can record 65 hours of HD programming. The system can also accept additional external drives.

Value Electronics, the Scarsdale, NY-based AV retailer that made a name for itself hosting annual TV Shootouts, has announced the winners of its first Headphone Shootout, held yesterday in New York City.
