LG is joining Sony on the 3D HDTV bundle train with its newest announcement. The company is going to throw in a package of 3D video products when customers purchase the LG LX6500 or LX9500 3D-capable HDTVs. The package includes two pairs of active...
Nearly 5 years ago, I read an article in the Lifestyles section of the Orange County Register that caught my attention. A family in an average Orange County neighborhood put in a front projector and large screen to enjoy big screen movies at their house with friends and family. They told of how wonderful it was to see movies at home this way and I wanted to explore that experience.
"I was born in Budapest in 1919 into a music-loving family."
So begins George Jellinek's own account of his musical life, as it appeared in the January 1976 issue of our predecessor, Stereo Review - a magazine for which he wrote from 1958 to 1999.
As we noted in "Feedback" in our June/July/August 2010 issue, we are indeed sad to report the death in January of a man who covered classical music for this magazine for 41 years.

Sweet Silk Dome
The Dynaudio DM 2/6 monitor comes in a vinyl-wrapped mediumdensity-fiberboard enclosure. This is so traditional, it’s almost retro. At the audiophile end of the speaker market, the vinyl-MDF box is outclassed by tantalizing veneers. At the pragmatic end—which is where a lot of the innovation comes these days—the vinyl-MDF box has given way to sound-bars and sat/sub sets with curvy molded-plastic or extruded-aluminum enclosures.
The kids today, with their Jason Biebers and their unlaced tennis shoes and their sparkly vampire movies: What in the name of Sam Hill are they coming to? Specifically, when it comes to home theater, I mean? They have literally thousands of entertainment choices. (When I was a kid, we had exactly three: yo-yos, Gilligan’s Island reruns, and seven-year-old copies of National Geographic magazine.) Will they care enough to invest in a good system? Will the flame of home theater continue to burn in the next generation and beyond? Or will it die out and become a fringe hobby, embraced only by a small faction of cranks with hitched-up trousers who cut their grass with vintage reel mowers and still think there’s some value in their sizable collection of S&H Green Stamps?

More Than Just a Disc Player
LG Electronics has proven itself to be the most innovative manufacturer of Blu-ray players in the world. It was first to market with an HD DVD/Bluray Disc combo player (BH100), a player with Netflix streaming (BD300), and a player with 802.11n Wi-Fi (BD390). To continue its string of firsts, LG’s BD590 is the first standalone Blu-ray player to include a builtin 250-gigabyte hard drive. It provides storage for BD-Live interactivity and can store movies purchased from VUDU, plus you can rip your favorite CDs for easy access. The player also lets you access Gracenote’s vast database of movie and music metadata. You can look up information by pushing a button on the remote. Let’s take a look and see how the BD590 stacks up to LG’s previous efforts.
Netflix has struck a deal with Relativity Media that will bring some movies into streaming distribution within a few months of their disc release, around the same time as premium pay-TV channels get them, and ahead of other streaming services.
YouTube's latest addition is surprising, cutting-edge, and wildly unnecessary. The video site can now accept 4K high-definition video. 4K video is video with a resolution of 4096 x 3072, almost four times higher resolution than 1080p video and...
