As I write this, I'm sitting at Gate 7 in the JetBlue terminal at JFK International Airport, awaiting my flight home after attending the first-ever CEA Line Shows, held June 10 and 11 across the street from the Empire State Building in midtown Manhattan. I made the long trip to New York because I wanted to support the concept embodied by the event and encourage it to grow next year.

I hadn't intended to post a news story on UAV about today's termination of analog over-the-air television broadcasts. Virtually all of our readers probably get their broadcast content via cable, satellite, or online sources, so the transition doesn't affect them—except possibly their kitchen TVs. Still, it's an historic day, so I decided that an obituary was in order.

Monster Cable had a lot to discuss at the CEA Line Shows in New York today. First and foremost was the world's first THX-certified HDMI cables, which meet or exceed the new HDMI 1.4 spec's bandwidth rating of 10.2Gbps as measured by Simplay Labs.

When Toshiba unveiled its flagship SV670 series of LED-backlit LCD TVs with local dimming at CES last January, all who saw it eagerly awaited its availability. Six months later, that wait is nearly over—the company announced at the CEA Line Shows today that it will ship this month with two sizes: 46 and 55 inches ($2300 and $3000, respectively).

Things were jumping in Mitsubishi's room at the CEA Line Shows today. First up was the resurrection of LaserVue, a DLP rear-projection TV illuminated with red, green, and blue lasers instead of conventional lamps or even LEDs.

Going Down
In the measurement section of some speaker reviews, I've often read that a speaker's -3dB point is at a particular frequency and the -6dB point is at another frequency. Could you please explain from what level the speaker is down 3 and 6dB?

You may not have heard of French projector maker DreamVision, but I sure have. Whenever I’ve seen its projectors at trade shows, I’ve always been impressed by their stylish cabinets, high performance, and high prices.

Gently Down the Stream
I'm not a PC guy, and ease of use for my fiancé and me is key. I'm planning to rip all my CDs to some 1TB drives and access the files via my Mac and iTunes. I was going to use the Denon AVR-3808 A/V receiver, as I've had a long, happy history with the brand, and I want decent amps and HD radio.

MartinLogan, well-known purveyor of high-end electrostatic speakers since 1983, recently introduced a new flagship to its lineup—the CLX. After reading the press release, I thought it might be fun to devise the ultimate ML home-theater system.

Blu-ray Blues
My TV is a Panasonic TH-42PZ80U and my Blu-ray player is a Samsung BD-P1500. They are connected with an HDMI cable. I've noticed that some Blu-ray discs aren't as sharp as others and really look just like a DVD. Am I being ripped off? Are some Blu-ray discs simply DVDs labeled as Blu-rays to make more money? I can't see anything wrong with my setup. Has anybody else had the same problem? How do I fix it so I get Blu-ray quality every time I watch a Blu-ray?
