Taiwan-based CyberLink today released the latest version of its popular PowerDVD movie and media player for Windows PCs.

Last week, <A HREF="http://www.chips.ibm.com">IBM</A> announced a family of chips that it hopes will accelerate the transformation of TV sets into fully interactive, two-way information appliances. IBM says it is combining high-speed PowerPC processors and other television set-top box (STB) components onto a single "system-on-a-chip" that will give STB makers "significant benefits in system performance, price, and design." IBM claims that the chips will also help drive new capabilities for electronic program guides, Web browsing, and interactive applications such as home banking, e-commerce, and information retrieval.

Premium Audio Company (PAC) has unveiled a series of firmware updates aimed at enhancing audio playback, functionality, and room correction on select models from Onkyo, Integra, Elite, and Pioneer. The updates are set to roll out on October 28 and November 18, 2024.

California's Assembly Appropriations Committee has unanimously voted in favor of legislation that will treat celebrities' images as copyrighted property. SB 209, nicknamed "the Astaire Bill," was passed 30-1 by the state's Senate on April 5, and will now move to the full Assembly for a final vote.

Some are good, some are awful, and very few are worth waking up before the sun rises. On the other hand, every now and then you find a nugget of golden information that makes all the coffee and pastries you can cram in your stomach worth wile.

Panasonic, the self-proclaimed leader in plasma TV, doesn't like the way the company's plasma TVs look. It's not that they don't like the picture quality - ask Panasonic people and they'll give you umpteen reasons why they think images on their plasma TVs look stunning - but, flat as plasma TVs are (I believe the old phrase "flat as a pancake" will soon be replaced by "flat as a plasma TV"), Panasonic knows some folks just can't be satisfied. (They won't be happy until we have wall-paper televisions.)
