In January, football fans will get an unprecedented opportunity to explore high-definition television thanks to an agreement reached December 20 between CBS Television and Thomson Multimedia's RCA division. The partners have signed a deal for sponsorship of American Football Conference Divisional Playoff games on January 11 and 12, 2003, and the AFC Championship game on January 19, 2003.

Though the company has had many owners, it is not bankrupt--just "going quiet" while it mulls over "a change in strategy," no doubt prompted by the rocky economy. Arizona-based <A HREF="http://www.rockfordcorp.com">Rockford Corporation</A> announced last week that it has acquired loudspeaker designer <A HREF="http://www.nhthifi.com">Now Hear This</A> (NHT) from Recoton Corporation. Previous Rockford acquisitions include Fosgate, Hafler, Acoustat, and MB Quart, and the company says that specific terms of the new agreement are confidential.

Loudspeaker manufacturer NHT is slimming down its offerings in more ways than one. The Benicia, CA-based company has announced that its new lineup will be reduced from the current 30 models to only 18. The new speakers themselves will be smaller than their predecessors, according to vice president and general manager Chris Byrne, thanks to advances in woofer technology that allow deeper bass to be generated from smaller cabinets with narrower front baffles.
