She's the member of Congress who introduced the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (or CALM) Act in the House of Representatives. The law, if passed, would take aim at blaring TV ads that are noticeably louder than the programming in which they appear.

Sonoro is a German audio manufacturer. The company recently commissioned a survey on the listening habits of 560 consumers. Thirty-nine percent of them named FM radio as their number one audio entertainment source, beating iPods and other MP3 players at 23 percent. That was interesting, but when I visited the Sonoro site, I found something even more interesting: the Cubo system.

There are so many ways to track the resurgence of vinyl. You might read Michael Fremer's "Analog Corner" column in the print version of Stereophile, our sister publication, or his own site The Music Angle. Or you could read the recent series of blogs by Stephen Mejias about his sudden and intense immersion in record cleaning machines and all things analog. You might peruse this masters thesis by a student at the University of Amsterdam. And what's this? A turntable review in Home Theater Magazine! But my favorite recent clip is this Associated Press story about a retail chain that accidentally ordered a large shipment of vinyl and ended up selling it.

Dr. Sidney Harman will retire on July 1. The 89-year-old audio pioneer will be succeeded as chair and CEO of Harman International by Dinesh C. Paliwal. Harman will remain chair emeritus.
