It's no secret that the cable industry has taken a big hit from satellite services DirecTV and DISH Network. Prospects for growth in the cable industry look decidedly stagnant, except for the "digital cable" segment, expected to grow at an annual rate of 11%, according to projections released September 1 by research firm JupiterResearch.

<A HREF="http://www.dolby.com">Dolby Laboratories</A>'s audio technologies have been selected as mandatory formats for both High-Definition Digital Versatile Disc (HD DVD) and Blu-ray Disc, according to a recent announcement. The DVD Forum chose Dolby Digital Plus and MLP Lossless as mandatory audio formats for HD DVD; while the Blu-ray Disc Association announced that Dolby Digital would be a mandatory technology on its new format, the Blu-ray Disc. Both formats are designed to deliver high-definition picture quality.

The Home Entertainment 2006 Show June 1-4, 2006 in Los Angeles at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, has announced a special Benefit Concert to support the Elf Foundation, a non-profit charity that creates Rooms of Magic&mdash;private entertainment theaters in children's hospitals that bring the enchantment of uplifting music and film to seriously ill children around the country. A portion of the gate from the concert will go to the Elf Foundation to support their wonderful work.
