Sony Demos New PJ

Sony demonstrated its new VPL-VW70 projector (about $8000) in a dedicated theater booth featuring Watt Puppy loudspeakers from Wilson Audio--driven by one of its own AV receivers. The demo featured a 2.35:1 screen, with the projector supplemented by an anamorphic lens.

Firmware Upgrades for Denon's Top Models

Come October 1, 2008, Denon owners will be able to download firmware upgrades for their the AVR-3808CI, AVR-4308CI from Denon's website for a $100. What's that get you? Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Audyssey Dynamic EQ, for two, and Sirius radio ready capability and Rhapsody streaming capability for three and four. Meanwhile, the higher end AVR-5308CI AVR (picture) and AVP-A1HDC1 pre/pro can get a free firmware upgrade of Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Sirius Radio capability.

There's something about having to post blogs in reverse order to be able to show more than one photo, and than not doing it...which is why you'll be reading more about Stewart Filmscreen's new Cabaret decorative and functional screen case, shown here with a partially extended screen, and further on in other postings. All very confusing for what is a very simple and interesting product.

The Statement D2 gets an upgrade

Anthem gave the show a sneak peek at their updated Statement D2 processor. Dubbed the D2 v2, it features 8 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs. Guess an outboard switcher is a thing of the past! The new HDMI inputs are all 1.3c compliant for full 7-channel 192kHz support and deep color capabilities.

Paradigm showcased their gorgeous Signature Reference series loudspeakers (review coming soon!) and their newest entry, the Sub 25. This new 15” behemoth of a sub features a 3000 watt RMS digital amp and claims to have 5 db more output than their already spectacular Signature Servo. Custom finishes are available.

Who says big screens can't be beautiful?

Stewart Filmscreen showed a couple of new products at their press event and their booth. The biggest buzz was the Cabaret, which is a designer housing for a retractable screen that can be customized to fit any dcor. The housing sports aluminum end caps and a removable valance that can be outfitted with different finishes, including fabrics, and sport just about any color imaginable. There is even an optional lighting feature that can be used for biasing or just good looks. Pretty snazzy!
