Intelligent Adventure Cam Does the Editing for You

Frodo—yes, Frodo as in the famous Hobbit—looks like a watch but it’s actually a wearable camera. And not just any camera.

Mumbai, India-based NexGear describes Frodo as an intelligent action camera that shoots in 1080p at 30 fps. Intelligent because its companion app uses an “evolutionary algorithm” to automatically edit footage for you. Select one of five editing styles for the video you want to edit and the algorithm works its magic, selecting the “best parts of your footage.” Then all you have to do is add music and share your creation via social media. Over time, the camera learns your storytelling style in an effort to improve and personalize your videos.

The dust/water/shock-proof camera mechanism is detachable and mounted on an adjustable flip-up hinge. NexGear says “boot to shoot time” time is 0.7 seconds and the camera has a built-in gyro stabilizer. The company also plans to offer 5-hour battery packs.

With 15 days to go, NexGear has reached 87 percent of its $50,000 funding goal on Indiegogo and is accepting pre-orders at the early bird price of $149 (plus shipping) for its 16GB model.

“Frodo was unveiled at CES 2016, Las Vegas and was well received by the adventure and travel enthusiasts,” according to NexGear. “Being a hardware startup from India it has not been easy for us but we took the challenges head on and were selected by Qualcomm as the top 5 hardware startups from India in this year’s QPrize competition.”
