Despite the fact that CES2016 hasn't even officially opened yet, DISH's press conference is likely to be one of the top highlights of the entire Show this year.

For those of you who have been waiting for DTS:X—the company’s new object based audio format designed to compete with Dolby Atmos—to be released (or rather updated to your existing system via a free firmware download) the answer is, “It’s coming really soon.”

Dynaudio’s first- and second-gen Xeo wireless speakers were previously reviewed in Sound & Vision. Long story short, we liked ‘em. Now the company has a new wireless speaker, the Xeo 2, that adds a few features the previous versions lacked, and is also considerably more affordable.

What you’re looking at is ELAC’s forthcoming wireless speaker. In truth, it’s a wireless powered speaker module—the company hasn’t settled yet on which of its bookshelf speaker models, the B5 or B6, will eventually get the wireless treatment.

Also shown is ELAC’s Discovery Music Server...

Andrew Jones speaker demos have been reliable crowdpleasers at CESes going back many years. Having decamped from TAD and Pioneer to the German company ELAC, he continues to impress.

Few manufacturers make value products with Emotiva's fervor and expertise, so the new Airmotiv speaker line is big news for those who want bang for buck.

“Works with Apple HomeKit” was a common theme among many of the new automation companies demonstrating at the International Consumer Electronics Show, and Elgato’s Eve family of devices offers some very affordable options to quickly and easily bring smarts and Siri-based control to your home.

Both Samsung and LG were showing huge 8k displays (Samsung's is shown here) and drawing crowds (I couldn't get near enough to LG's to shoot a photo!). While clearly technological demonstrations (with 16 times the resolution of 1080p "Full HD,") someone in Korea thinks this would be a nifty idea. But on the size sets most people buy, I'm not at all sure, apart from the Wow factor at a CES.

EZVIZ makes cheap—no, that’s not right, because they’re high-quality so let’s say very affordable—cameras for DIYers to use to monitor homes and apartments without breaking the bank in the process. The company’s cameras are also small, unobtrusive, and, importantly, not ugly. I tried out the EZVIZ Mini last year and was quite impressed with the performance and form factor, especially considering the $69 price. Now EZVIZ is introducing several new models that, if they live up to their pre-release promises, will be even more exciting.

The Qeus smart integrated entertainment system ups the ante of the typical media player. While other media players have added micro gaming (mobile phone type games), the Qeus includes home control. This adds the most of the functionality of smart TVs like the new Sony that has smart home control.

Buried deep in the Mobility zone of the LVCC’s North Hall, Libratone’s minimalist wood and glass-lined booth seemed an oasis of Scandinavian design amidst the electronic(s) noise.

Focal says the flax composite driver in its SUB1000D sub ($1499) is tougher than Kevlar and prized for its low mass and high damping.

It’s a few days after CES and I’m finally winding down from the relentless press events, press releases, and my feet have forgiven me for the miles of hiking the floors of the Convention Center. My waistline, however, may take a while to recover from the receptions and cocktail parties that manufacturers love to host during CES.

GoldenEar is thinking big with two new towers and small with a new sub.

In a year when few new products surprised me, Lifeprint woke me up. Lifeprint demonstrated its photo printer and smartphone app that can make still photos appear to come alive and move. The experience brought to mind the excitement of the magical world of Harry Potter where printed photos in frames and newspapers would move like a short video.
