Cassia Networks demonstrated what the company is calling, “the world’s first Bluetooth router which uses a new enabling technology that redefines what’s possible with Bluetooth.” The word router isn’t one that’s normally heard in association with Bluetooth. Nor is the term “long-range”. (I’ve used another choice term or two when talking about Bluetooth, but we’ll leave those unspoken for the moment.)

The show officially opens Wednesday, January 6 and runs through Saturday, January 9 but our coverage begins tomorrow (Tuesday, January 5), a day packed with wall-to-wall press conferences. Expect news from a number of the majors, including Samsung, LG, Panasonic, and Sony.

What do Hunter S. Thomson, Philip K. Dick, and L. Ron Hubbard all have in common? For starters, they all use an initial in their names, and anyone who does that is obviously trying hard to appear to be intellectual. More important, I think they would all have enjoyed attending this year's CES.

If there’s one thing we know for sure about an Ultra HD broadcast standard, it’s that its still under development. But will TV stations really end up broadcasting 4K-resolution programming? Will the average viewer even care?

Sure, it's not our normal beat. But who wouldn't want a Candy Crush scented phone case...?

For decades, First Alert has manufactured products designed to keep families safe through smoke, fire and carbon monoxide detectors. Onelink takes the company’s legacy forward into the connected world with a group of products designed to protect and inform you no matter where you are. One of the coolest monitoring products I ran across was the new Wi-Fi Envirocam that is designed to give peace of mind to parents and caretakers alike.

In a technology demonstration Meridian, Jaguar and Intel combined to show how the future of a fully connected life could integrate both your home and automotive away lifestyle. Using integrated technologies that included a pair of Meridian DSP3200 digital speakers and a Sooloos music server, and a Meridian audio system in the Jaguar F-Pace SUV, notifications could be sent from the Jaguar to the TV in the home, and adjustments to the home could be mirrored to the SUV to insure a smooth transition between home and away living.

There were four primary aspects to the tech demo including personal inventory tracking, preferred temperature, seamless media transfer, and second driver notification.

The world in which our smart cars drive us to and from our smart homes isn’t here just quite yet, but Control4 is already doing its part to make that smart home living dream come true.

Sure, you might think that 8 million pixels of glorious UHD, 4K video would be the height of pristine image quality on its own without any room or need for improvement, but DarbeeVision would beg to differ. At CES the company demonstrated the improvement that could be had when true 4K images are processed and enhanced with the company’s proprietary Visual Presence DVP processing.

Definitive Technology and Polk Audio demonstrated for the first time the capability of its soundbars pairing with smaller, wireless speakers to form a true 5.1-channel wireless surround system. While company representatives would not confirm the technology being used, one could infer that since all of the speakers involved were from the PlayFi wireless ecosystem, and since one of the recent PlayFi updates enabled the possibility of adding surround speakers, that PlayFi was the underlying wireless technology at play.
