Yamaha Aventage RX-A2000 A/V Receiver HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures

Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 70.7 watts
1% distortion at 79.9 watts

Seven channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 62.9 watts
1% distortion at 76.9 watts

Analog frequency response in Pure Direct mode:
–0.07 dB at 10 Hz
–0.02 dB at 20 Hz
+0.02 dB at 20 kHz
–2.76 dB at 50 kHz

Analog frequency response with stereo signal processing:
–0.26 dB at 10 Hz
–0.07 dB at 20 Hz
–0.04 dB at 20 kHz
–12.98 dB at 50 kHz

This graph shows that the RX-A2000’s left channel, from CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads, reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 170.5 watts and 1 percent distortion at 189.3 watts. Into 4 ohms, the amplifier reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 236.1 watts and 1 percent distortion at 287.4 watts.

Response from the multichannel input to the speaker output measures –0.07 decibels at 10 hertz, –0.02 dB at 20 Hz, –0.07 dB at 20 kilohertz, and –2.85 dB at 50 kHz. THD+N from the CD input to the speaker output was less than 0.006 percent at 1 kHz when driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load. Crosstalk at 1 kHz driving 2.83 volts into an 8-ohm load was –87.13 dB left to right and –83.44 dB right to left. The signal-to-noise ratio with an 8-ohm load from 10 Hz to 24 kHz with “A” weighting was –107.68 dBrA.

From the Dolby Digital input to the loudspeaker output, the left channel measures –0.03 dB at 20 Hz and –0.02 dB at 20 kHz. The center channel measures –0.03 dB at 20 Hz and –0.00 dB at 20 kHz, and the left surround channel measures –0.02 dB at 20 Hz and –0.03 dB at 20 kHz. From the Dolby Digital input to the line-level output, the LFE channel is +0.15 dB at 20 Hz when referenced to the level at 40 Hz and reaches the upper 3-dB down point at 94 Hz and the upper 6-dB down point at 116 Hz.—MJP

Does the YPAO equalize the subwoofer?

Can I have my cable box via HDMI go through the video processor, while keeping Blu-rays via another HDMI input (duh, haha) go untouched?

Thanks for any reply.

According to Yamaha, YPAO on the RX-A2000 does equalize the subwoofer. However, the video processing is applied globally to all inputs; it cannot be applied independently to individual inputs.

Thank you Scott!
A couple more...
Can I assume that the sub equalization in the receiver be equal or close to the PBK on a Paradigm SUB 10?
On the RX-A2010, should I leave video processing to my Sony 55HX701?

I know you're busy and I appreciate any info you provide.

I don't know if the AVR's sub EQ is as good as PBK, but I would guess not, since Paradigm is a speaker specialist. The only way to know for sure is to try them both and see which one you prefer.

Likewise with the video processing. Watch some standard-def and 1080i content with the AVR's processing on and off (in the latter case, the TV will do the processing) and see which one looks better.
