The Social Network comes to Blu-ray Page 2

Accordingly, Fincher has focused his attention more on his cast than on the film's look (which isn't that interesting). The main settings move from a deposition room to offices and dorm rooms, all under-lit and yellow-tinted. Even the exteriors are overcast; ironically enough, scenes at the Henley Royal Regatta in England are the brightest. Still, the 2.40:1 images on Blu-ray have both detail and depth. Patterns in tropical shirts on Caribbean Night are well defined, and text on computers is perfectly legible. There are deep blacks in the suits' suits, bright whites in their shirts, and occasional blocks of rich color, as in one girl's memorably short-short ruby knickers.

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack adds adrenaline to the mostly dialogue-driven scenes by immersing you in loud music. Yet even at the incredibly bassy nightclub, the actors' witty lines are clear. Unsurprisingly, there's not much panning of effects in the mix, but elements like a door knock and a bouncing bottle cap are nicely placed.

Sorkin's commentary track may be more fact than fun, but the intercut cast-member quotes refer to some enjoyable on-set experiences. In a solo commentary, Fincher is much more charismatic, and engages you in the drama of storytelling. Disc 2 features a 90-minute documentary (composed of rehearsals, interviews, and other behind-the-scenes footage) that hints at the excitement of working with such smart guys. Seventy minutes of interesting featurettes cover the high-def digital shoot, Fincher's painstaking direction of the actors, and the narrative use of sound and music.
