Onkyo Announces New AVRs and Dolby Vision Update for 2016 Models

Onkyo is adding two more receivers to its 2017 AV receiver lineup in addition to the $349 entry-level model announced on Monday.

The company also announced plans to make a Dolby Vision firmware update available for its 2016 lineup of 7-, 9-, and 11-channel AV receivers later this year. Models covered by the update range from the TX-NR555 to the PR-RZ5100.

Slated to ship in May, the 7.2-channel TX-NR575 ($549) and TX-NR676 ($649) are rated to deliver 7 x 100 and 7 x 80 watts (0.08% THD), respectively, and offer Dolby Atmos (up to 5.2.2) and DTS:X immersive audio processing in addition to Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X up-mixing to “recreate an object-based experience from legacy multichannel formats in environments where height channels are employed.”

Both models support hi-res audio—including DSD 5.6 MHz/2.8 MHz and PCM 192 kHz/24-bit files—Chromecast and DTS Play-Fi wireless streaming (both enabled via a firmware update) as well as Spotify Connect, AirPlay, Bluetooth, and the streaming services Pandora, Tidal, TuneIn, and Deezer.

Other common features include Onkyo’s AccuEQ automated room calibration system with AccuReflex technology that aligns the phase of upfiring height speakers with sound coming for other speakers in the system for a more realistic surround presentation, HDMI pass-through of HDR10 and Dolby Vision and support for BT.2020 color and 4K/60 Hz video.

The TX-NR575 has six HDMI inputs, while the TX-NR676 has six rear HDMI inputs plus one up front for connecting a video camera along with Main Out and Sub Out HDMI connectors that can be used to connect a projector and TV display simultaneously. Both models also provide pairs of component- and composite-video inputs, six analog audio inputs, a phono input, three digital audio inputs (two optical and one coaxial), and a USB input.

Powered Zone 2 speaker outputs provide the option of amplified audio distribution to speakers in another room, and the TX-NR676 adds bi-amp-ready outputs for front L/R channels. A Zone 2 line out is also included.
