Here's the deal. The music industry wants to sell you a CD single with three songs and a ringtone. Are you ready to "ringle"? Yes, that is indeed the name.

The first titles will cost $5.98-6.98. Sony BMG, which originated the idea, will bring out 50 titles in October and November, and the Universal Music Group will release 10-20 more. In addition to the ringtone, each disc would contain a mixture of songs: a new one, a remix, and an older track.

There's a catch, as Reuters explained: "Each major label still needs to cut a deal with a digital aggregator to allow consumers to redeem the ringtone." So you've got to go to the Internet to download your ringtone after all.
