Homesick Review

Homesick is a gorgeous, moody, puzzle game you should absolutely play. Like, right now.

You awake, with no introduction or explanation, in a decrepit room. You find a torn paper with a child’s drawing on it. This is a clue, largely the only one you’ll get.

From here the puzzles play out, as do pieces of the story. It’s hard to review a game like this, since I don’t want to give anything away.

The majority of the puzzles are clever (though not all). At the very least, they usually made me feel clever at solving them (and not annoyed, like I do with most puzzle games).

Built with the Unreal engine, the the game is gorgeous. It reminds me of Hashima Island or Pripyat, which, to be honest, is about all it takes to get me interested in a game (or movie).

Adding to the atmosphere is a largely piano-based score that is beautifully haunting. You can hear some of it in the preview below.

Homesick is only $15, and it took me about 3 hours. It tells an interesting story well, and it tugged at my emotions a bit several times. So it’s well worth the money for an evening's entertainment.

It’s available on Steam.
