Hasbro previews "Iron Man 2" toys, still no word on its TV network project with Discovery

Toy Fair 2010 is in town this weekend. The trade show opens its doors on Sunday, but toy manufacturer Hasbro kicked things off a day early with its Collectors' Day event. If you wanted a sneak peek at some of the biggest toys of the coming year, it was an amazing experience.

Unfortunately, despite the company revealing nearly everything about its plans for the next several months, it was surprisingly quiet about its upcoming TV network, the Hub. The network, a joint venture between Hasbro and Discovery, will launch in Fall 2010 and features both Hasbro and Discovery properties like Transformers, My Little Pony, and Discovery Kids. Some details were announced last month, but besides the press release the company has been mum. Neither company has even confirmed HD content yet, but between Hasbro's entertainment properties and Discovery's history of HDTV programming, it's a relatively safe bet.

On the bright side, the event offered a look at what this summer's biggest blockbuster will bring, at least to the toy shelves. Iron Man 2 has a ton of tie-in products planned, many of which offer a preview of what the movie itself will hold.

In the first movie, Iron Man saved the day with his circular Arc reactor and Mk. III armor. For Iron Man 2, Hasbro is offering action figures featuring Tony's Mk. IV Iron Man armor, with a triangular Arc reactor. It looks like Mr. Stark is going to have fresh new armor for the movie.

If you want to dress up like Iron Man, Hasbro will be rolling out some new role playing toys as well, including a full-head Iron Man helmet with a flip-up visor, a repulsor beam gauntlet that lights up and launches darts, and even clip-on Arc reactors that you can snap onto the chest of your shirt (and come in both circular and triangular versions). Also, at some point, it looks like Tony Stark will become a potato, and have potato-shaped armor and fight crime as Tony Spud, the Iron Mash. Or it might just be the latest Mr. Potatohead movie tie-in.

Okay, it's not earth-shattering news, but it's at least a hint as to how a few things will change in the movie. I mean, we already know that Don Cheadle is playing Rhodey/War Machine, Whiplash and Justin Hammer are the main villains, and Tony Stark is going to drink a whole lot of alcohol. Do you want the entire film spoiled before it comes out in May?
