Criterion Goes Blu

Videophiles of a certain age recall the way Criterion swept through the laserdisc domain like a fresh wind, radically raising standards for both film to video transfer quality and alternate track interviews. Having continued its high standards in DVD releases, Criterion is now about to apply its magic touch to Blu-ray.

The first slate of titles will be: The Third Man, Bottle Rocket, Chungking Express, The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Last Emperor, El Norte, The 400 Blows, Gimme Shelter, The Complete Monterey Pop, Contempt, Walkabout, For All Mankind, and The Wages of Fear.

The Last Emperor will come in two forms, boxed set and standalone theatrical release, on both Blu-ray and DVD for $39.95. Walkabout will feature both a new transfer and new supplement on Blu-ray. Also updated will be the anamorphic DVD release of The Man Who Fell to Earth.
