CEDIA Installer Boot Camp: Making the Grade Page 6

So now I'm officially a CEDIA Certified Level I technician, and my wife has taken to calling me "Installer Guy." I'm ready to tackle those in-walls, plus a whole lot more. I know I made the right decision to come to Boot Camp before hacking into my living-room sheetrock because, if I learned anything in Indy, it's that custom installation is actually a lot like . . . scuba diving. Crazy analogy, I know, but stay with me. See, there are two ways to learn diving. The quick way is to pay a few bucks at a resort in Cancun, take a few minutes of instruction from a guy who's too busy trying to shag a coed to worry about whether your breather is working right, then hop off the boat into the hyper-fast currents of the Yucatan Straits. Yippee! But if you take the time to do a real scuba course and become a certified diver, as I once did, you'll learn about the really bad things that can happen when you go out untrained and unpracticed. And you'll realize that no one should ever think about short-circuiting that process.

cedia_day2_11It's the same with installs: What you don't know can hurt you - or at least waste your time and money as you stumble through tasks or fumble your way through fixing one mistake after another.

I can't fully describe how much incredibly useful information was packed into this well-conceived, compact course, and how much it was enhanced by the knowledge and experience of the instructors. And that's the beauty of it.
