Yamaha Announces New Entry-Level AV Receivers

Yamaha has added four new models to its entry-level RX-V series of AV receivers at prices ranging from $300 to $650.

The RX-V383 ($300) and RX-V483 ($450) receivers are 5.1-channel models featuring Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio processing and the RX-V583 ($550) and RX-V683 ($650) are 7.2-channel models featuring 4K/Ultra HD passthough, Yamaha’s enhanced Cinema DSP sound field modes plus Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround processing. The V383 and V483 ship in April, followed by the V583 and V683 in May.

All models support 4K at 60p 4:4, the expanded BT.2020 color space, and all high dynamic range (HDR) formats, including Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and Dolby Vision, both of which will be available via a firmware update scheduled for the fall. Other common features include Bluetooth streaming and Yamaha’s Compressed Music Enhancer, which is said to improve the quality of wireless music playback from smartphones and tablets.

Other highlights: The RX-V683 has a phono input and the RX-V383 model now includes a USB input.

Three of the four models—the RX-V383 being the exception—support Yamaha’s app-based MusicCast wireless multiroom platform, which is compatible with 40 Yamaha products, including AV receivers, speakers, soundbars, audio components, and home theater in a box (HTiB) systems.

Yamaha also announced that it has expanded the music streaming services offered on its receivers to include Tidal and Deezer—both available via a firmware update in May. They join Pandora, Spotify, Napster, and SiriusXM.
