Portable Audio-Remastering Device Ships in July

It seems there are no creative boundaries in the rough and ready world of crowdfunding. What will they think of next?

How about a portable audio mastering device designed to improve sound quality on the fly? Aftermaster Pro, conceived to “transform the audio” from TVs, smartphones, headphones, laptops, gaming consoles—you name it—is like “having your own sound engineer wherever you go,” according Aftermaster Audio Labs.

Following a successful fund-raising effort on Indiegogo that netted more than $700,000, the company—which counts Justin Timberlake among its backers—expects to ship the $150 device in July.

Aftermaster Pro, the brainchild of “award-winning sound engineers…who were frustrated with the overall quality of mass consumer audio,” is said increase the clarity, depth, and fullness of sound from any system. In particular, the company says the processing bolsters the low end of small speakers and dialogue in “remastered” TV audio comes across clearer, louder, and more balanced.

The heart of the device is a digital signal processing chip/custom algorithm co-developed with ON Semiconductor. “Our sound technology process can actually identify the dialogue in a movie or show, and optimize vocals for your audio devices, making everything louder and clearer without raising the background audio,” the company explained.

Powered by a rechargeable 8-hour battery, Aftermaster Pro is equipped with a minijack input and output, two HDMI ports, and an HDMI output.
